Who I Am
TL;DR Software (Quality) Engineer, who loves developing software, public speaking, mentoring and inspiring, nurturing teamwork, and standing strong for quality.
Chrishan Perera got his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. During his studies he already worked at multiple institutes at the KIT. In September 2015 he started as an intern in Quality Engineering at Citrix (now LogMeIn). Starting April 2017 he’s now working at LogMeIn as a Senior Software Development Engineer. Chrishan is passionate about real agility, burns for Quality, encourages his colleagues to try out modern work methods, and builds Test-Frameworks alongside.
I started out as a Java Backend Developer. I'm decent at it... with Java 8. And since I'm not really focused on that anymore, I'm struggling right now to update this section of my profile. 30 Minutes passed Thinking about it... my strongest skill is empathy. Honestly, it drives how I work. Of course, I'm still developing new web services and maintaining legacy projects. For that, I touch TypeScript and React, Java, Kotlin, Python, Objective-C, and C++.
This is where my superhero skills come into play, I see how I can bring the most benefit and act on it. This ranges from actual development, being a domain knowledge, data, quality, and architecture expert, roadmap designing, up to presenting our results to stakeholders and helping out "other" departments. Oh, and I'm a passionate public speaker now. I've given talks at conferences and on other occasions. I absolutely love it. I'm also super skilled at understanding and explaining simple and complex matters. In two years, I mentored over 12 students, having 8 students simultaneously at the peak. This includes 3 internships, 4 bachelor and 1 master theses. I now moved on to mainly mentoring the mentors since this scales way better :)
I'm constantly improving myself, by doing things I'm afraid of, listening to audio books about psychology, marketing, sales, and leadership, and taking care of myself. I'm aiming to become at least 1% better every day. Since last November I lost close to 40kg in body weight and became passionate about fitness, and eating healthy. I'm actually giving a talk about this transformation.
So, in the end, if you're looking for a regular Software Engineer, you're at the wrong address. If you also strive to be more than what you are, hit me up.
